Goals from Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick secure victory for Manchester United at Queens Park Rangers and move them to the top of the table.

Manchester United have moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory at Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.

The Red Devils dominated the encounter throughout and but for some wayward finishing and saves from Radek Cerny, the scoreline could have been even greater.

United took the lead with only 56 seconds on the clock through Wayne Rooney, who headed in Antonio Valencia's back-post cross.

Jonny Evans then failed to convert a good chance to further extend United's lead when he headed against the crossbar from just three yards out.

Cerny then denied Phil Jones on the half-hour mark, while up the other end David De Gea was called into action to turn away Heidar Helguson's low effort with his feet.

United eventually doubled their advantage after 56 minutes. Michael Carrick picked up possession inside his own half, before beating two players and slotting the ball past Cerny from 18 yards out.

Substitute DJ Campbell missed QPR's best chance to get themselves back in the game when he volleyed over from close range.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side will keep hold of top spot if Arsenal defeat Manchester City later today.
