Sports Mole's Premier League Team of the Week

Following the return of the Premier League after the international break, Sports Mole selects its team of the week.

The Premier League returned with a bang this weekend following the international break, with plenty of talking points across all matches.

Manchester United earned their first home win of the season, while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both came away with the points from their respective games.

Everton scored arguably the most eye-catching result of the weekend as they defeated the might of Chelsea, and Newcastle United saw off struggling Aston Villa.

Here, Sports Mole singles out the 11 players who made their mark.

Jussi Jaaskelainen (West Ham United)
The veteran Finnish keeper proved that he has lost none of his sharpness as a number or vital saves helped the Hammers earn a point at Southampton.

Patrice Evra (Manchester United)
Evra did what he does best against Crystal Palace: getting involved in attack while doing what was needed in defence as United picked up their first home win of the season.
Phil Jagielka (Everton)
The England international was part of an Everton back four that soaked up plenty of pressure from Chelsea during what was a memorable victory for the Blues of Merseyside.
Sebastien Bassong (Norwich City)
His team may have lost to Tottenham Hotspur, but Bassong applied himself admirably at White Hart Lane to limit the damage for the Canaries.
Seamus Coleman (Everton)
The youngster did well to keep a star-studded Chelsea attack at bay while also causing them problems in the final third as the Toffees recorded a famous win.

Hatem Ben Arfa (Newcastle United)
Ben Arfa is quickly establishing himself as Newcastle's star man this season, scoring his second goal of the campaign in a win at Aston Villa.
Michael Carrick (Manchester United)
The 32-year-old showed once more how important he is to the champions thanks to a quietly authoritative performance in their triumph over Crystal Palace.
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)
Ramsey's stock continued to rise on the weekend as the ever-maturing midfielder bagged a brace during the Gunners' win at Sunderland.
Steven Naismith (Everton)
The Scot worked his socks off in all areas of the pitch and scored the winning goal in his side's victory over Chelsea.

Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)
The Gunners' need for a striker is becoming less of an issue thanks to the current form of Giroud, who got the visitors on their way against Sunderland.
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Rooney's recent troubles looked a thing of the past on Saturday as a strong display against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford was rewarded with a goal.

Numpty of the week

Martin Atkinson: The referee made a shocker of a decision at the Stadium of Light by wrongly disallowing Jozy Altidore's goal against Arsenal.

Goal of the week

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) vs. Sunderland: The Welsh midfielder swept in a beautiful volley out of nothing to put the Gunners ahead at Sunderland.
