Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Harry Maguire will not be available for Sunday's Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils crashed out of Europe in midweek with a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, where both Maguire and Luke Shaw failed to emerge for the second half due to adductor and hamstring concerns respectively.
Shaw should be fine for the weekend's battle, but Maguire will miss out alongside Mason Mount (calf), Anthony Martial (illness), Jadon Sancho (club suspension), Amad Diallo (knee), Christian Eriksen (knee), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Casemiro (thigh) and Tyrell Malacia (knee).
In addition, captain Bruno Fernandes must serve a one-game ban for an accumulation of bookings, while Victor Lindelof (knock) will need a once-over in the coming hours, but Marcus Rashford has battled back from a bug of his own.
With Maguire now taking up a bed in the overflowing treatment room, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane - brought back in from the cold - should be tasked with shielding Andre Onana.
Shaw's recovery means that the Englishman should have the daunting task of trying to keep Mohamed Salah quiet, allowing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to return to the fold at right-back over Diogo Dalot.
Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat should not be afforded any respite in the middle, where Kobbie Mainoo is seemingly the most likely candidate to step in for Fernandes, unless Ten Hag takes a punt on Hannibal Mejbri or the frozen out Donny van de Beek.
Rashford ought to be feeling better by the time Sunday rolls around, so the England international could now be considered for an attacking recall alongside Antony and Rasmus Hojlund, the latter of whom is still waiting to open his Premier League account.
Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Evans, Varane, Shaw; McTominay, Amrabat, Mainoo; Antony, Hojlund, Rashford
