Manchester United's Wayne Rooney to play for 60 minutes

Wayne Rooney will step up his recovery from a knee injury by playing for an hour for Manchester United's Under-21s on Monday night, reveals manager Louis van Gaal.

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be given a one-hour run-out for Manchester United's Under-21s tomorrow night.

The club skipper has not played since February 13 because of a knee injury.

However, Van Gaal has revealed that the 30-year-old is to step up his comeback with an appearance in United's second string against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

"He shall play on Monday 60 minutes to see how he is doing. He is more than two months out of the game," he told reporters.

"Of course he is a great striker, but he has to show already if he is in a certain shape. It is always like that."

Rooney has scored seven goals from his 22 Premier League appearances this season.
