Tottenham Hotspur can set a new club goalscoring record when they lock horns with Manchester United in Sunday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur could write a new chapter of club history when they return to Premier League action against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After losing their grip on a Champions League place during their autumnal plight, Ange Postecoglou's men rediscovered their golden touch over the festive period, winning four of their last five games in the top flight.

Spurs remain outside of the top four in fifth spot, but with Arsenal not in action this weekend, the Lilywhites will rise back into the Champions League berths with victory over Erik ten Hag's side at the Theatre of Dreams.

Despite losing several key men to injury and now seeing a trio of players jet off to international tournaments, Tottenham remain irrepressible on the goalscoring front, having netted in all of their competitive matches so far this season.

Postecoglou's men continued that astonishing attacking streak thanks to Pedro Porro's stunner in a 1-0 FA Cup beating of Burnley last Friday, and their scoring sequence in the Premier League stands at a remarkable 32 fixtures.

Not since a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of March 2023 have Tottenham been shut out in a Premier League fixture, and should they make the net bulge at Old Trafford, they will set a new club record of registering in 33 straight league games.

The Lilywhites' hopes of making club history will be boosted by the acquisition of Timo Werner, who despite reported interest from Manchester United opted to return to London on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season.

The Germany international will provide an additional attacking threat while Son Heung-min is representing South Korea at the Asian Cup, although he failed to score in his first four matches against Man United, all of which ended level.

Spurs also head to Old Trafford having suffered six defeats in their last 10 Premier League games without captain Son, although Richarlison has belatedly hit a rich vein of form for the Lilywhites, netting five goals in his last five Premier League games.

Back in August, Postecoglou's side deservedly bested Man United 2-0 thanks to a Pape Sarr strike and Lisandro Martinez own goal, and another club first could also be achieved if they can take all three points home from Old Trafford.

Since the Premier League's inception in 1992, Tottenham have never completed a top-flight double over Man United, who last lost both league meetings with the Lilywhites in the 1989-90 First Division.

The late Terry Venables was in the Tottenham hotseat that season, where Gary Lineker netted in a 1-0 Old Trafford victory and also struck alongside Paul Gascoigne in a 2-1 White Hart Lane success later that year.

During the Premier League era, only four of Tottenham's 31 matches with Man United at Old Trafford have seen the North London giants emerge victorious, but they enter the weekend sat three places and eight points better off than their upcoming hosts.

Sunday's blockbuster tie could also see Romanian defender Radu Dragusin make his debut for Tottenham, as Postecoglou is confident that his work permit will be approved in time for the trip to Old Trafford.

Micky van de Ven was also back on the bench against Burnley in the FA Cup, but Cristian Romero is unlikely to be involved despite returning to training from a hamstring injury.
