Sports Mole's Premier League Goal of the Season

The Sports Mole team votes to bring you our top three goals of the most recent Premier League season.

The curtain came down on yet another Premier League season yesterday afternoon.

While in previous campaigns it may have been easy to identify the best goal from that year, this time around it was not so straightforward.

We at Sports Mole put it to the vote and although it became apparent rather quickly that there were three standout contenders for our Goal of the Season award, there was very little to separate the trio of strikes.

It eventually came down to just four votes separating the three goals. You can find out who came out on top below.

3. Luis Suarez vs. Newcastle United - November 4, 2012

Love him or loathe him, Liverpool's Uruguay international showed just how good he is by scoring this goal. He had no right to control Jose Enrique's long pass in the way that he did, before going on to wrong-foot Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul and rolling the ball into an empty net.

2. Matthew Lowton vs. Stoke City - April 6, 2013

Not only was it the best goal scored by an Aston Villa player over the last 10 months, it could well be argued that it was the most important. With three minutes left and the score locked at 1-1, the full-back took the ball on his chest and then looped a volley into the top corner of the net from 30 yards out. It also helped move his side out of the relegation zone.

1. Robin van Persie vs. Aston Villa - April 22, 2013

Having had such a big say on the destination of the title, it seemed fitting that the Dutch striker played such a major role in securing it for Manchester United. The summer signing from Arsenal scored a hat-trick in this match, but it was his second goal that will live long in the memory. The pass from Wayne Rooney was pinpoint, but the volleyed finish was even better and left Brad Guzan in the Villa goal rooted to the spot.
