Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take charge of his 100th Premier League game as Manchester United manager on Sunday, and he does so with a better record than Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take charge of his 100th Premier League game as Manchester United manager when his side face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux this afternoon.

The Norwegian's position has come under scrutiny at various points throughout the previous 99 games, and he is still yet to claim his first piece of silverware in the Old Trafford dugout.

However, the Man United hierarchy recently backed him with a new long-term contract, while the Red Devils appear to have assembled a team capable of challenging for major honours once again following the summer arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and soon Cristiano Ronaldo.

The statistics also bode well for Solskjaer, whose record from his first 99 league games at the helm is better than that of legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Solskjaer has won 52 of his first 99 Premier League games as Man United manager, drawing 28 and losing 19.

Only eight previous managers have reached a century of league games in charge of the 20-time champions, and of those, only Ernest Mangnall - manager from 1903 to 1912 - has won more of the first 100, with 54.

However, Sir Matt Busby and Tommy Docherty are the only two of those eight to have won their milestone 100th match in charge, with five of them - including Ferguson in 1989 - losing theirs.

Man United have picked up four points from their opening two games this season, and could break an all-time English football record if they avoid defeat at Molineux.
