Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware that he has plenty to prove before he is considered for the managerial job at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that it will be a long time before he is considered as a candidate to manage the club.

The current Molde manager has made no secret in recent months of his desire to take over at Old Trafford at some stage in his career.

However, the 39-year-old has admitted that he does not currently possess anywhere near the required experience to carry out the job.

"I can say that I'm not stupid enough or naive enough to be able to do that job," he said. "Every player who has played for Man United would hope that they become such a good manager that they could get that job.

"If that's to happen I've got to work hard in many, many years and learn, get the experience and let's see later on.

"As young managers, when you come to a tough period you've got to get through that one to show the Man United board and Man United supporters that you might be the right man."

Solskjaer recently guided Molde to their second league title in a row.
