Luke Shaw "happy" with England Under-21 inclusion

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw says that he has not been included in the England Under-21 squad as "a punishment".

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has insisted that he has no qualms about being selected in the England Under-21 squad.

The 19-year-old was a part of the senior England setup that went to the World Cup during the summer, but despite his recent return to fitness, he was not named in Roy Hodgson's selection for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia.

However, the left-back, who is expected to feature against Croatia's Under-21s at Molineux on Friday night, has revealed that Hodgson has not left him out as a "punishment".

"I spoke to Roy about it and he rang me the week before it came out and said it's not a punishment or anything like that. I haven't been playing, so it's for me to help out the Under-21s," The Telegraph has quoted Shaw as saying.

"I've been talking to the manager and we've spoken about and think it's a great idea for me to go to help out with the Under-21s and get some game-time as well.

"It's not just me. We're all happy to help. It's always been a privilege to play for my country, no matter what level it is and I will do it and do my best. I've been unlucky with the Under-21s as I've had a lot of injuries but I still feel I can go and help out. I'm really looking forward to it."

Shaw has been capped on three occasions by England at senior level.
