Marcus Rashford opens up on "tough period" under Jose Mourinho at Man Utd

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford opens up on his "tough period" under Jose Mourinho, but insists that the Spurs boss made him a mentally stronger player.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has lifted the lid on his "tough period" under Jose Mourinho, and has insisted that the now-Tottenham Hotspur manager has improved his game.

Mourinho took charge of the Red Devils between 2016 and 2018, during which time Rashford was beginning to make a name for himself at Old Trafford.

The England international chalked up 28 goals and 20 assists under Mourinho, and believes that his stint under the Spurs boss has shaped him into the player that he is today.

Speaking to the Official Manchester United Podcast, Rashford said: "It was tough but I think when you look back on it in five or six years they're the moments that give you that mental toughness.

"As an all-round player I've improved a lot and a lot of it is down to those two years under Jose. We had ups and downs - when I look back at it, it was a tough period but definitely a period that made a better player."

This season, Rashford has notched up 19 goals in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, including 14 in 22 Premier League outings.
