Alan Pardew wary of "dangerous" Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew says that Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be "dangerous", despite his poor form.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has claimed that Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney still poses a threat, despite his current lack of form.

The England skipper has managed just two Premier League goals this season and missed a penalty in United's defeat to Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old is expected to line up for the Red Devils in Saturday's match against Palace at Selhurst Park.

Despite Rooney struggling for goals, Pardew believes that the striker's "frustration" will work in his favour.

"I think Wayne, throughout most of his career, has been at the top of the pitch or just back one in the No.10 role," Pardew told reporters in today's press conference. "He plays both roles very well. He is at the top of the pitch now and maybe he is not getting the service he would probably want in that.

"I can see a little bit of frustration in him but that makes him dangerous. Rooney has proved many times, particularly when he gets criticism, that he can deliver.

"We'll be on our guard for Wayne. He's an outstanding player, he's the England captain and we'll give him the respect he deserves."

Palace have lost their last two league matches.
