Gary Neville: 'Manchester United to challenge Chelsea next term'

Gary Neville tips Manchester United to learn from their mistakes this season and launch a Premier League title bid next term.

Gary Neville has warned the Premier League's elite that Manchester United are only going to go from strength to strength next season.

United beat local rivals Manchester City 4-2 this evening to consolidate third in the standings, eight points behind runaway leaders Chelsea.

Having picked up five points from a possible 15 at the start of the campaign, the Red Devils are arguably paying the penalty for their sloppy early-season form.

However, Neville says that manager Louis van Gaal will address those deficiencies during the summer and plot a title bid next term.

"Next season, [Van Gaal] will look at games he's dropped points in this season and will think because that level of performance has come now, they could win those games next season," he told Sky Sports News.

"I think the confidence will be growing in the camp. There are people in that dressing room who have won titles, and they'll get the feeling again that the performance levels and confidence is coming back.

"That's the first time Louis van Gaal, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini have seen Old Trafford properly today in terms of an atmosphere. It's what Manchester United can create and that will give them enormous confidence. It always does when you win big matches."

Van Gaal's side have won their last six league outings.
