Manchester United will review possibility of women's team

David Moyes confirms in a letter to an MP that Manchester United will review its position not to have a women's team.

Manchester United will review its position to not have a women's football team, manager David Moyes said in a letter to an MP.

The Red Devils closed its ladies side in 2005 to focus more attention on youth football but it does have a Girls' Centre of Excellence where coaching is given to those up to the age of 18.

A petition was started by retired head teacher Graham Pheby, 67, from Northenden that has 3,478 signatures and now Moyes has written a letter to Withington MP John Leech confirming that the club are looking at the matter.

"I understand your concerns on this subject. These matters are looked at from time to time and I understand the club is reviewing this again. Once that review has been completed, the club will evaluate the findings and make a decision," said Moyes at the end of the letter, published in the Manchester Evening News.

Moyes also said that his former club, Everton, has a successful ladies side and that his own daughter played for Preston North End girls.
