David Moyes hopes for the support of the Old Trafford faithful as he begins his reign as Manchester United manager.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes has called for the club's fans to get behind him as he begins his time at the helm.

Moyes, who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson earlier in the summer, said that he wanted a smooth transition as he has inherited a squad that should be able to retain the Premier League.

"I'll be new to a lot of supporters," Moyes admitted in his first press conference. "This a new era but Sir Alex Ferguson will never go away. He'll always be here, you can see his statue, you can see his stand, and he's certainly someone I'll go to.

"Hopefully, the supporters will realise it was his time to finish and time for someone else.

"I know what I've got and I know the job in hand but I am sure when Sir Alex Ferguson took over he knew the job in hand too. But he has left me a squad that is capable of winning the Premier League title."

Moyes also told reporters that Wayne Rooney is not for sale this summer.
