Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho refuses to strip Paul Pogba of penalty-taking duties, but believes that he can improve his technique after missing against Everton.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told Paul Pogba that he can improve his penalty technique after missing from the spot during this afternoon's Premier League clash with Everton.

Pogba saw his 27th-minute penalty well saved by Jordan Pickford at Old Trafford, but he then tucked home the rebound to give his side the lead in an eventual 2-1 win over the Toffees.

The French midfielder's run-up is one of the more distinctive in football, with his miss against Everton seeing him take 27 steps before striking the ball, but Mourinho is not planning to strip his former vice-captain of the penalty-taking duties.

"The thing I like is the desire to take it. Let me choose the words, I don't want to be punished. I don't like Mickey Mouses, fragile, afraid to go, 'I don't take penalties.' I like the player that is 'I want to take it,'" Mourinho told reporters.

"Paul, can he improve? I think he can. The goalkeepers know his running, they don't move and they are waiting for his decision so he has to learn from that, but for me the most important thing is he wants to go again."

United's victory saw them climb above the Toffees into eighth in the Premier League table.
