Wigan manager Roberto Martinez criticises the timing of the international break, which left him just two days to prepare for their trip to Man United.

Roberto Martinez has voiced his frustration after the recent international break left his Wigan Athletic side with just two days to prepare for their clash with Manchester United.

A hefty chunk of Martinez's Latics squad were involved in fixtures around the globe in midweek, as World Cup qualifying took centre stage on the footballing calender.

Wigan travel to Old Trafford on Saturday and Martinez believes that the timing of the international fixtures potentially jeopardises the standard of this weekend's Premier League contest.

"We've got 48 hours to go to one of the biggest games of our league competition and we don't even know what kind of squad we can count on. That's for ourselves, that's for Manchester United," Martinez said.

"As a whole, I don't think that's a healthy position for any team to be in when trying to put on a good display for the fans in what we consider to be the best league in the world."

Wigan have taken four points from their opening three games of the season.
