Manchester United appear to have accidentally confirmed Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer as their interim boss until the end of the season.

United sacked manager Jose Mourinho earlier today following Sunday's 3-1 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool - a result which left the 20-time champions 19 points adrift of the leaders.

Solskjaer was quickly installed as the favourite to replace Mourinho, with United confirming that they would appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

There has been no official announcement from United, but content relating to Solskjaer was uploaded onto their official website earlier this evening which referred to the Norwegian as "our interim manager".

The page has since been deleted, but United are expected to confirm their former striker's appointment until the end of the campaign tomorrow.

The 45-year-old is currently in charge of Norwegian side Molde, but their season has already finished and does not begin again until March.

Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 366 appearances during an 11-year stay at Old Trafford and his first game in charge could come against another of his former clubs Cardiff City on Saturday.

The treble-winner spent eight months at Cardiff in 2014, when he suffered relegation from the Premier League with the Bluebirds.
