Federico Macheda: 'Players aren't to blame at Manchester United'

Federico Macheda says that he is at a loss to explain Manchester United's poor form this season.

Federico Macheda has admitted that he is at a loss to explain Manchester United's poor form this season.

United beat West Bromwich Albion 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, but are currently sixth in the Premier League.

The champions are 15 points behind league leaders Chelsea, and the Italian striker, who is on loan at Birmingham City, feels that the players aren't the root of the problem.

He told The Telegraph: "It's been very difficult, I don't know the reasons why [they're struggling]. Are new players needed? Well yes, of course, but last season they won the title with the same team and now they've got Juan Mata.

"People say they need new signings but it's still basically the same team that finished first last year. It's a big gap to the top four but they could have a chance. This season the title has gone but there is always next season."

United host Liverpool next on March 16.
