Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard claims that the club will reap the benefits of his battle with David de Gea for a starting position.

Anders Lindegaard has claimed that competing with David de Gea for a place in the Manchester United side is good for the team.

Both goalkeepers have enjoyed spells in goal in the past year but neither have been able to secure a regular spot as the first choice of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Lindegaard said: "From the first day he came to the club, we have both been telling each other, 'I think you can try to solve this situation in a different way'.

"I'm sure it's not an easy job to have two qualified keepers who both want to play as number one.

"Obviously, there can only be one so it's not an easy job to keep us both happy, keep us both motivated and keep our character where we want to play for him and perform for him, as we want to perform for the manager."

Lindegaard is expected to start for United when they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
