Jurgen Klopp: 'I could not get away with Jose Mourinho tactics'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits that his side found it difficult taking on "defensive" Manchester United, as he takes aim at opposite number Jose Mourinho.

Jurgen Klopp has taken a swipe at Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho by claiming that Liverpool could not deploy the same type of defensive tactics.

The Red Devils held on for a goalless draw at Anfield thanks to some good goalkeeping from David de Gea and yet more disappointing finishing from the home team.

Liverpool were in control largely throughout the contest on Saturday lunchtime but, after seeing his side fail to find a way through at Anfield, Klopp took aim at second-in-the-table United.

"I'm sure if we played like this, you could not do this at Liverpool. Obviously for United it is OK," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "It's quite difficult when a top-class team like United has that defensive approach. I think United came here for the point and they got it.

"We wanted three points and didn't get it. We were dominant, it is a home game for us so we should be dominant. I am okay with the performance - it is not my job to judge the United performance.

"For me today, one team who can become champion this year was in our stadium and is not a world apart from us. It's not that we are playing different planets and they are really good and we do not find the entrance to the stadium."

Mourinho has won only one of his eight matches as a manager against Klopp in all competitions, with four of those now ending all square.
