Roy Hodgson: Move to Arsenal "good" for Danny Welbeck

England manager Roy Hodgson backs Danny Welbeck's decision to leave Manchester United for Arsenal.

England manager Roy Hodgson believes that Danny Welbeck will benefit from his deadline-day switch from Manchester United to Arsenal.

Twenty-three-year-old Welbeck had fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind fellow strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, as well as Radamel Falcao, who signed on at Old Trafford on loan last night.

Hodgson believes that the centre-forward has made a "good" decision regarding the move.

"The biggest bonus is for him of course. When you are player of his calibre and you find yourself at Man United with such enormous competition for places that you don't always get the starts you would like, I think that it's good for him that he has gone to a club where he will hopefully get more starts and playing time," Hodgson told reporters.

"I'm pleased for him and because I select Danny all the time I obviously think that Arsenal have signed a good player."

Welbeck scored 29 goals in 142 appearances for United.
