Darren Fletcher nears Manchester United return

Darren Fletcher trains with the Manchester United first team as he continues his recovery from illness.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is close to making a return to football following a 22-month battle with a chronic bowel condition.

The former Scotland captain, who has undergone two operations as well as months of intensive treatment, trained with the club's first team this week.

Fletcher is a part of Red Devils manager David Moyes's plans, and has targeted next month as a possible date for his comeback, according to the Daily Star.

The 29-year-old has not played for United since their Boxing Day win over Newcastle United in 2012.
