Sir Alex Ferguson: 'Manchester United can win league with David de Gea'

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists that David de Gea can help the club win the Premier League title.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that the team can win the Premier League title with David de Gea in goal.

The Spaniard came close to leaving the club on transfer deadline day, but has signed a new contract with the team after his move to Real Madrid fell through.

The Scot told the club's website: "I think De Gea can actually win us the league. We are second in the league. We are in a good position because [league leaders Manchester] City hadn't lost a game until last week and then United won at Southampton and the whole thing changes round.

"Chelsea have lost a couple of games, Arsenal have lost a game, if you are there around New Year's Day then they will have a good chance."

Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-13 season after winning a 13th Premier League title with the club.
