Sir Alex Ferguson says that he is delighted with defender Jonny Evans's "development" at Manchester United in the last two years.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that defender Jonny Evans could become his team's captain in the future.

The 25-year-old has started 14 Premier League matches and four Champions League games for the Red Devils so far this season.

"He's a fantastic footballer," The Sun quotes Ferguson as saying. "He's quick and has two great feet.

"But the development in the last couple of years has been in his authority within games."

United are currently seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
