Man United vs. Crystal Palace: Worrying stat shows extent of Ruben Amorim's Old Trafford issues

Damning statistic: Just how bad have Man United been at Old Trafford this season?

Manchester United's seven defeats from their 13 home Premier League matches this season is their joint-most at this stage of a league campaign.

Manchester United's record of seven defeats from their 13 home Premier League matches this season is their joint-most at this stage of a league campaign in their entire history.

The Red Devils were bested 2-0 by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with the team beaten on home soil for the seventh time in the Premier League during the 2024-25 campaign.

Man United had last suffered as many defeats at this stage back in 1893-94, making it their joint-worst home record in their entire history, which is an incredibly damning statistic.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Palace have all beaten the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League this term.

Man United entered the clash with Palace off the back of three straight wins in all competitions, but Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a brace to hand the visitors all three points.

Man United have lost seven home Premier League matches this season

Amorim has now won eight, drawn three and lost eight of his 19 matches since taking charge of Man United in November, and there will be major pressure on the Portuguese to lead the team to a win over Leicester City in the FA Cup next week.

Man United will seemingly struggle to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season, but they are in the knockout round of the Europa League and among the favourites to win the competition.

Amorim also addressed Marcus Rashford after the clash with Palace, as the England international prepares to join Aston VIlla on loan for the second half of the campaign.

The Portuguese rejected claims that it would be "embarrassing" for the club if Rashford impressed at Villa considering Man United's problems in the final third of the field.

Amorim addresses Rashford's imminent move to Villa

"It's not embarrassing. When you loan a player - and I don't think it's official yet - you expect him to play and improve, so there's nothing humiliating there," he told reporters.

"I understand the question, but I'm just focused on my players, that's all. When the window closes, I will be really focused on just our team and trying to improve our team. We have to improve as a team to score goals and we are trying our best to improve the team.

"This market is really hard on the clubs to make some deals here. It's hard. Then you have the urgency and sometimes, when you are in the moment, you make mistakes.

"We're trying everything and we want so badly to improve, I want so badly to improve the team. I know what the team needs. Sometimes it's possible or not, but we're trying everything."

Man United have already signed Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu during the January market, and they are also attempting to bring in Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich before the window closes.
