Sam Allardyce: 'Marouane Fellaini was lucky to avoid red card'

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce claims that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini should have been sent off during Saturday's match at Upton Park.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini should have been sent off during his side's victory at Upton Park.

West Ham defender James Tomkins required treatment after he was fouled by Fellaini during the closing stages of United's 2-0 win on Saturday.

Allardyce believes that the midfielder was fortunate to stay on the pitch after replays showed that he landed with his studs on Tomkins's ankle.

"I thought Marouane Fellaini was lucky not to get sent off," Allardyce told Sky Sports News.

"Probably the ref wasn't in the right place and that's why if he has any doubt he can't give it.

"You've got to be absolutely certain if you're the referee that you've seen what has happened."

West Ham return to action when they host Hull City on Wednesday evening.
