Red Devils boss Alex Ferguson admits that the quality of Manchester United's young players "forces" him to make them starting regulars.

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to the young players who contributed to the club’s first home win of the season.

The 69-year-old started 19-year-old Phil Jones along with Tom Cleverley, 22, and Danny Welbeck, 20, who scored the Red Devils' first goal in their 3-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

"I'm pleased at that because it tells you we still believe in young players," Ferguson told the club’s official website.

"That's what this club is about and I think all the fans appreciate that, more so when you see the ability they've got. We've always had confidence to play young players. But this group have such fantastic ability. It forces me to play them, really."

The Premier League champions continue in their campaign to defend the title by hosting rivals Arsenal on Sunday (August 28).
