Southampton manager Nigel Adkins insists that his side will remain positive despite their last-minute defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has insisted that his side will remain positive despite their last-minute defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Saints led 2-1 at St Mary's before Robin van Persie struck two late goals to condemn the newly-promoted side to their third Premier League defeat in three games.

"We put ourselves in a position to win the game and we haven't," Adkins told Sky Sports News. "Man United always finish the game strongly and we didn't see it through.

"But all the lads put a great shift in. We will remain positive, we knew the first four games would be challenging but we have loads of positives."

Next up for Southampton is a trip to Arsenal on September 15.
