Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney injured, says David Moyes

Wayne Rooney misses tonight's League Cup quarter-final at Stoke because of injury.

Wayne Rooney has missed this evening's Capital One Cup quarter-final against Stoke City through injury, Manchester United manager David Moyes has said.

It was initially believed that Rooney had been rested at the Britannia Stadium this evening, but Moyes said that it was worse than that.

When asked if the England international would be fit for the upcoming busy festive season of Premier League games, he told Sky Sports News: "We hope so."

Any time that Rooney has out would be a huge blow to United as their other star striker, Robin van Persie, is also sidelined until the New Year.
