Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag says that Anthony Martial will again be absent against Leicester City on Thursday.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Anthony Martial will again be absent for Thursday's Premier League clash with Leicester City.

The France international missed the team's opening two matches of the 2022-23 Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford due to a hamstring problem.

Martial made his first outing of the campaign as a second-half substitute against Liverpool on August 22, but he was absent against Southampton last time out due to an Achilles problem.

The same injury will rule the forward out of Thursday's game at Leicester, but Ten Hag has said that Victor Lindelof, yet to feature this term due to fitness issues, could be in the squad against the Foxes.

"Victor Lindelof is training with the team, we will see today how far he is but just one session he was in. He was two-three weeks out. Martial is not available," Ten Hag told reporters.

Facundo Pellistri, Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones remain unavailable for selection for the 20-time English champions.

There will also be no Antony, with the attacker's arrival from Ajax not yet being officially registered, but Casemiro is in line to make his full debut for the club.

The Brazil international featured as a second-half substitute against Southampton last time out and is now pushing to be named in the first XI at the King Power Stadium.

"I've seen a couple of games and we also knew from the last seasons how good they are and I think you can also see that in the games they've played to now. Their identity is really good to see, they play really football, so we have to be really good to get a result there," Ten Hag added when asked about Leicester.

The Dutchman also said that his side now have "a good base" to build from due to their victories over Liverpool and Southampton in their last two games.

"I see it as a start, we have a good base. This is the minimum of what we have to bring. I was happy to see the turn and we have to keep that, to keep the spirit and winning mentality because you need it if you want to have a successful season," he added.

Ten Hag is expected to stick with the same back four that have impressed against Liverpool and Southampton, meaning that Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw could be on the bench once again.

Martial's absence could see Cristiano Ronaldo start at centre-forward, with the Portugal international now seemingly set to stay at the club, although Anthony Elanga is also pushing to retain his starting spot.

Man United will follow the clash against Leicester with a home game against Arsenal on September 4 before welcoming Real Sociedad in the Europa League four days later.
