Manchester United reveal that Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Manchester United have confirmed that Marcel Sabitzer will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Sabitzer joined the Red Devils in January from German giants Bayern Munich, signing on loan until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

During his short stay with the 20-time English champions, Sabitzer has scored three goals and provided one assist in 18 competitive appearances.

However, the Austria international missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a knee problem.

Man United have now revealed that the Bayern loanee has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a meniscus injury.

"Everyone at the club is disappointed to lose Marcel's services, as we strive for a strong finish to our season in the Premier League and the FA Cup," Man United said on their club website.

"We appreciate his contribution to our progress so far. We would like to wish Marcel well in having a speedy recovery."

The injury ensures that Sabitzer will miss the FA Cup final against Manchester City as well as league meetings with Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham.

With Sabitzer set to return to Bayern at the end of the campaign, there is a possibility that he has played his final game in a Man United shirt.

According to BBC Sport, Man United have not made a decision on whether they will pursue a permanent transfer for the 29-year-old.

Sabitzer's absence adds to Erik ten Hag's injury woes, with Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek already ruled out for the rest of the season.

Scott McTominay is also sidelined with an injury issue, while there are concerns over Marcus Rashford's fitness after he missed the win over Wolves.

Man United, who are sitting in fourth position, are currently preparing for Saturday's Premier League away game against Bournemouth.
