Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has suffered a setback in his injury recovery.

Shaw is yet to feature for Man United this season, having been forced to miss all 14 of the club's competitive matches this season.

There was hope that the England international would recover in time to return to action after the October international break.

However, Erik ten Hag revealed that Shaw had suffered a setback before he was relieved of his duties as Man United manager on Monday.

Man United handed Shaw injury setback

Speaking after Sunday's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United, Ten Hag told the media that Shaw's rehabilitation was not going according to plan.

Ten Hag told reporters: "The process is not going as we expected, that's the truth. The setback - if you want to call it like this - but we want to do it very careful because when he is now dropping again we have made the wrong process.

"So we want to be very careful. We know his past. We have to do this right because we want him to be available because he will have a big impact on our performances and also on our levels.

"We can't have it that he is playing for some games and then drops out again. So we do it very careful."

Shaw's injury woes continue

Unfortunately for Shaw, he continues to struggle with persistent injury issues which have ultimately plagued his career for a number of years.

The left-back particularly struggled for full fitness last season, with various injury problems restricting him to just 15 appearances in all competitions.

Despite his fitness woes, Shaw was included in the England squad for Euro 2024, where he featured in England's final three matches.

However, he has not played for Man United since being withdrawn in first-half stoppage time of February's 2-1 win over Luton Town.

In addition to Shaw, Man United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is also having to cope without the services of Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Noussair Mazraoui.

Van Nistelrooy is currently preparing to take charge of his first game as caretaker manager, with the Red Devils set to play host to Leicester City in Wednesday's EFL Cup tie.
