Erik ten Hag issues a concerning injury update on defender Lisandro Martinez following Manchester United's 3-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag has revealed that Lisandro Martinez's injury picked up in Manchester United's 3-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday is a "big concern".

Martinez was passed fit to start his second successive Premier League game despite coming off in the closing stages in the previous match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday with a recurrence of a foot injury.

Ten Hag played down the injury fears surrounding Martinez prior to kickoff against West Ham, but the Argentine wet down twice in the space of five minutes midway through the second half holding his knee, and he gingerly walked down the tunnel after being replaced by Raphael Varane.

Ten Hag has since issued a concerning update on Martinez, whose latest setback has somewhat taken the shine off of Man United's impressive win over West Ham.

Speaking at his post-match press conference Ten Hag said: "It doesn't look good. There is a big concern. We have to wait in the coming days for the diagnosis and then we can tell you.

"Of course we will do everything to get the right diagnosis and see what is the damage."

"He's very sad. Very disappointed," Ten Hag added. "We are all sad. "It's a personal disaster when it's really bad, but also for the team is really bad because he definitely brings us a lot."

Martinez has been sidelined for the majority of this season and made just his ninth appearance for Man United in all competitions in the win against West Ham.

The 26-year-old suffered a fractured metatarsal last April, which required surgery, before suffering a recurrence of the same injury in September which forced him to spend around four months on the sidelines.

Martinez made his long-awaited return for the Red Devils in the FA Cup against Newport County on January 14, coming on the final 27 minutes, before starting the aforementioned win over Wolves earlier this week.

Man United's No.6 has emerged as a major doubt for the club's next Premier League fixture away against Aston Villa on February 11 and could be facing another lengthy period on the sidelines.

On a positive note, Victor Lindelof made his first appearance for the Red Devils since December 6 when he came on as a second-half substitute against the Hammers after recovering from a groin injury.

Man United's victory over West Ham has seen them leapfrog West Ham into sixth place in the Premier League table, although they still sit eight points adrift of the top four.
