How every Premier League season would have finished after gameweek 29: 2010-11

Given the current uncertainty over the resumption of the Premier League, Sports Mole takes a look at how the 2010-11 season would have ended after gameweek 29.

With the coronavirus pandemic having brought a halt to the Premier League campaign, Liverpool have been left waiting to find out whether they will be given the chance to end their 30-year wait for a league title.

However, many of the 20 clubs in England's top flight face an anxious wait over their own positions, whether that be to do with European qualification or potential relegation to the Championship.

Of course, the current global crisis has caught everyone off guard, resulting in frequent meetings being held between the powers-that-be at their respective organisations. However, it naturally raises the question of what would have happened in years gone by had the Premier League been ended after gameweek 29.

At the beginning of April, Manchester United held a seven-point advantage over the chasing pack, so it was no surprise that Sir Alex Ferguson's team finished the campaign with nine points separating them and second position.

However, there was movement with regards to the Champions League places. While Arsenal were in second spot after gameweek 29, they eventually finished in fourth, meaning that they would be placed in the playoff rounds of European football's premier competition.

Chelsea, who had been in fourth, claimed 16 points from their last eight games to move ahead of the Gunners and Manchester City, who remained in third place.

Tottenham Hotspur kept hold of fifth ahead of Liverpool, who missed out on the Europa League as a result of Stoke City reaching the FA Cup final.

After gameweek 29, just three points separated the bottom seven teams in the standings, making it extremely unlikely that West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic would remain in the relegation zone.

The Hammers were the only team of that trio to drop down to the Championship after picking up just one points from their final seven fixtures.

However, Wolves and Wigan would put together strong finishes to reach 17th and 16th respectively, leaving Birmingham City and Blackpool to return to the second tier.

Birmingham, who had won the EFL Cup earlier in the season, recorded just one win from their last seven outings, while Blackpool missed out despite having registered six points over the same period.

Aston Villa were the biggest movers over the closing weeks, earning 14 points from seven fixtures to progress from 16th position into ninth.
