Roy Hodgson: 'Marcus Rashford has special qualities'

England manager Roy Hodgson challenges Marcus Rashford to replicate his end-of-season Manchester United form at Euro 2016 this summer.

England manager Roy Hodgson has challenged Marcus Rashford to replicate his end-of-season Manchester United form at Euro 2016 this summer.

The 18-year-old striker was included in Hodgson's final 23-man squad for the tournament despite having played just 19 matches of senior football in his blossoming career.

However, he has quickly established himself as a rising star and continued that ascent with a record-breaking goal on his England debut last Friday, leaving Hodgson interested to see whether he can make an impact in France.

"Rashford's had that fantastic end to the season and he's a very, very interesting player," he told reporters.

"He has special qualities. I think that's been recognised by everybody and it'll be very interesting to see, in a squad of 23, whether or not he can bring those qualities to bear at an even higher level."

Rashford scored eight goals in 18 appearances for Manchester United in the closing months of the 2015-16 campaign.
