Wayne Rooney: 'We can progress in Champions League'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney insists that his side are capable of continuing their progression in the Champions League past the quarter-final stage.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has insisted that "anything can happen" in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

United are one of the tournament outsiders after a disappointing domestic campaign, but despite admitting that his side face the prospect of being handed a "tough" draw, the England international is confident of causing an upset in the last eight.

The 28-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I think in cup football, anything can happen. We're in the quarter-final so you never know what can happen from there.

"You look at the three Spanish teams left in the competition, they're all good teams. Chelsea are probably playing the best football this season and obviously you've got Bayern Munich.

"PSG are playing well. It's a talented group of teams so whoever we get, it will be tough."

A hat-trick from Robin van Persie helped United overturn a first-leg deficit against Olympiacos on Wednesday evening.
