Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini feels that his side will need to invest in the transfer market again this summer.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini feels that his side will need to spend again this summer in the transfer market to compete with rivals Manchester United.

Mancini spent in the region of £50m last summer on players such as Javi Garcia, Jack Rodwell and Matija Nastasic, while United invested a similar amount on Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa.

The Italian told reporters: "We need to improve our team every year and in the summer we need to buy the players who can make the difference.

"I don't know how much money we can spend but United in the past spent a lot of money to buy important players.

"Now they do not need to spend £100m every year. They just need to buy one top player every year because they are strong. It is different for us and we need to do it this way."

City and United face off on Monday in the Manchester derby.
