Manchester City reportedly identify Bayern Munich full-back David Alaba as a transfer target ahead of a summer rebuild after surrendering their Premier League title.

Manchester City have reportedly identified Bayern Munich full-back David Alaba as a transfer target for their planned summer rebuild.

City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to freshen up his squad after surrendering the Premier League title to Liverpool with seven games of the season still remaining.

David Silva has already confirmed that he will leave the club after 10 years this summer, while Leroy Sane is expected to join Bayern when the transfer window reopens having turned down a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

With Vincent Kompany having left last summer and both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho now in the final year of their respective contracts, Man City are expected to enter the market this year despite the financial effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Guardian reports that Guardiola has earmarked Alaba as one of his top targets due to the 28-year-old's ability to play at left-back or centre-back - two areas where City are keen to strengthen.

Guardiola worked with Alaba during his time in charge at Bayern Munich, where Alaba came through the ranks and has made almost 400 first-team appearances since his debut in 2010.

However, any interest in Alaba will not affect Sane's move in the opposite direction, with that deal already close to being completed.
