Vincent Kompany insists that he is not considering leaving Manchester City, despite dropping down the pecking order.

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has claimed that his future at the club is not up for "debate".

The Belgium international has struggled with injuries over the last few seasons, and in this campaign in particular he has started just 10 Premier League games.

Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones have moved above him in the pecking order, while January signing Aymeric Laporte is fresh competition.

Despite the lack of game time that Kompany is facing, the centre-back has no intention of leaving when his contract expires at the end of next season.

"That's not even a debate," The Mirror quotes the Belgian as saying. "If you're fit, you have many options and a lot of clubs. If you're not fit, you don't have many opportunities and not many clubs.

"If I stay fit, I'll want to play football at City. And if I'm not fit, I won't have other options. I don't know if I could muster the same motivation elsewhere.

"It may seem that I'm high-maintenance, but I'm a good professional and I work so hard on my return. The longer I'm available, the more chance I'll get to play more matches."

Kompany, who will turn 33 next year, has been at City since 2008 when he signed from Hamburger SV.
