Manchester City's Gael Clichy admits Ligue 1 temptation

Gael Clichy says that he could be tempted to return to his homeland if he moved to a top Ligue 1 club.

Manchester City defender Gael Clichy has admitted that he would be interested in a move to Ligue 1, but insists that he is focused on winning back the Premier League title.

The 28-year-old previously played for Cannes in the French third tier before being taken by manager Arsene Wenger to Arsenal a decade ago, and moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2011.

"It is one of my regrets that I have not played in the French Ligue 1," Clichy told Foot Sur-7. "I did play in the lower divisions but people didn't really know me at the time and I have not sampled all the French stadiums.

"But I believe that the Premier League is the most challenging in the world and if there was the chance that I could play here for the rest of my career, I would sign today because if you are playing in the Premier League, it means that you are facing the best players. I train hard every day to remain at this level and I have been fortunate to play for Arsenal and now for Manchester City.

"Who knows, Ligue 1 is now really attractive with PSG and Monaco and if the opportunity arises, I would be happy to play in France because it is my country. But I feel good in England. I like the English and the football is so passionate."

Clichy is currently on international duty with France.
