Manuel Pellegrini: 'Frank Lampard loan extension the best decision for everyone'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that Frank Lampard's loan extension at the Etihad until the end of the season is "the best decision for everyone".

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that Frank Lampard's loan extension at the club is "the best decision for everyone".

The 36-year-old has extended his deal with the Etihad outfit until the end of the season following talks with parent club New York City FC.

Following the Citizens' 3-2 win against Sunderland on Thursday, Pellegrini told reporters: "Nobody can be surprised with Frank Lampard. He is a top player with a huge amount of important goals in his career. When you use him in the second half, when players are tired, he knows exactly where to go and how to move.

"I always said that we would try to keep him for the rest of the season, it was not an easy decision but Frank is very happy to stay here and we need him here.

"I hope that he will be [at New York] next year but for now the best decision for everyone is for him to stay here."

Lampard scored his side's winner against the Black Cats.
