James Milner: 'Manchester City future depends on playing time'

James Milner claims that his willingness to stay at Manchester City depends on how much time he is given on the pitch.

James Milner has claimed that his Manchester City future hinges on how many opportunities he will be given to play on a regular basis by Manuel Pellegrini.

Reports have suggested that the England international is in line for a new contract, with his current deal due to expire next season, but he insists that being granted more minutes on the pitch is a necessity.

"I understand I won't play in every game. I just want a fair crack of the whip, a few more games than I got last year," Milner told members of the media. "You have to perform as well, and that is never easy when you are in and out of the team.

"I have a year left and have spoken to the club. I love it here and would love to stay at Manchester City, but first and foremost I am a footballer and want to play football.

"We have had talks, but I want to see how it goes. Hopefully I will play enough games and can be at City for the long term."

Milner has started two games so far this season.
