Tim Krul says that Newcastle were unlucky to lose to Manchester City.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul believes that his side were unlucky to lose to Manchester City but has admitted that they were outdone by their opponents' class.

Two second-half Yaya Toure strikes proved enough to give City the win that keeps them at the top of the Premier League.

The Magpies matched the league leaders for much of the game but Krul has conceded that City's quality shone through in the end.

"We are disappointed about today because we had a few opportunities, but it just didn't go our way," the Dutchman told the club's official website.

"We stayed with them for 70 minutes, put them under a bit of pressure in that time and created a few chances as well. It's just a shame we couldn't get the goal, but they've got a fantastic defence.

"Going forward they just had a little bit of quality and luck on their side - it was a great finish from Yaya Toure for the first goal."

Newcastle can still achieve Champions League football after both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur drew over the weekend, leaving the Toon Army in fifth place, a point behind Spurs and two behind the Gunners.
