Emyr Huws: 'Only pressure to perform is from myself'

Manchester City striker Emyr Huws reveals that he feels no pressure from anyone else to live up to the high expectations.

Birmingham City loanee Emyr Huws has revealed that he feels no pressure to perform from anyone but himself.

The striker, who was named as man of the match in his first game for the club against Derby County, has been tipped to make the breakthrough at parent club Manchester City in the coming seasons.

Despite the expectations, Welshman Huws is focused on first gaining experience at Championship level.

"The only pressure is from myself," Huws told the Birmingham Mail. "I don't feel it from anyone else. The manager has asked me to do what I have been doing at Man City: feel no pressure, do what I do, play my game. Keep performing well.

"That's what I will try and hopefully do. It was a good start for me on Saturday and hopefully I can keep repeating that kind of performance. It was always the next step for me, just to play some games in the Championship and do well and go on from there.

"When Birmingham came in I was excited to have the opportunity to come and play here. I didn't give it much thought, I was always up for it. I enjoyed it against Derby. It was my first game in the Championship. You just have to try and adapt the best you can quickly."

The 20-year-old was called up to the Wales senior squad for the first time in November, and made his debut for the Citizens last month.
