Pep Guardiola reveals in his new book that he would "step aside" if things were not going to plan at Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has spoken of how he would "step aside" at Manchester City if results started to dip in an extract from his new book.

The Catalan, who came to England in 2016, made history by following a 2017-18 season which saw City claim 100 points with the club's first domestic treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup in the same campaign.

However, following eight Premier League outings this season, City find themselves eight points behind leaders Liverpool in the wake of Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In an extract released by The Sun from his new book, 'Pep's City: The Making of a Superteam', Guardiola said: "[City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak] knows I'd step aside if things weren't going to plan.

"I'll give everything to avoid that and make every effort to move things forward. No coasting."

Guardiola has previously declared that he could not spend many years at the same club in the same fashion as Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger.

Reports have suggested that the Premier League champions are planning for life after the 48-year-old by giving Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst an access-all-areas role at the club.
