Report: Manchester City hope to keep Fernandinho at club beyond retirement

Manchester City are reportedly hoping to keep Fernandinho at the club beyond the end of his playing career.

Manchester City have reportedly drawn up plans to keep Fernandinho at the club beyond the end of his playing career.

The Brazilian has been an integral part of the Citizens squad since his 2013 move from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fernandinho was recently handed a new two-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, which will take him up to his 35th birthday.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola has enlisted the help of Fernandinho to talk to transfer targets, as well as aid his fellow Brazilians in acclimatising to life in Manchester.

The report claims that the 32-year-old could follow a similar path to that of former Man City coach Patrick Vieira with a more hands-on position at the club, or a role within the City Football Group.

Fernandinho has made 223 appearances for Man City, scoring 20 goals and recording 22 assists.
