Thursday's Manchester City transfer talk news roundup: Nicolas Tagliafico, David Alaba, Ruben Dias

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester City on Thursday, October 1.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Manchester City eye possible reinforcements.

The 2018-19 champions did not bring in a single player during the January transfer window, despite suffering a defensive shortage for much of the 2019-20 campaign, but they have already started their business for the summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings at the Etihad.

Thursday morning's Manchester City transfer talk news roundup:

Barcelona 'not planning any more signings after Sergino Dest'

Barcelona's impending deal for Ajax full-back Sergino Dest will reportedly be their final signing of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish giants are understood to be on the brink of completing a deal for Dest in a transfer worth a reported £23m.

The 19-year-old will become Ronald Koeman's first major signing since taking over as manager, but Goal reports that it may also be the last of the summer due to the club's financial problems.

Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia, Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez and Lyon winger Memphis Depay are among the players to have been linked with a switch to Camp Nou this summer.

However, Koeman will have to raise any future funds from player sales, and even then only 25% of the money brought in will be made available for new signings due to La Liga's staff limits imposed to manage the financial impact of coronavirus.

Barcelona have already shifted a significant sum from their wage bill by offloading Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Nelson Semedo, while Samuel Umtiti, Jean-Clair Todibo and Martin Braithwaite have also been linked with exits.

Manchester City eyeing David Alaba, Nicolas Tagliafico moves?

Manchester City have reportedly ramped up their efforts to sign a new left-back before the transfer window closes, with David Alaba and Nicolas Tagliafico emerging as targets.

The Citizens were hammered 5-2 by Leicester City in their second Premier League game of the season on Sunday, laying bare their defensive issues.

Pep Guardiola is said to be particularly concerned about the left side of his defence, where Benjamin Mendy has struggled for form and fitness since joining three years ago.

According to the Daily Mail, City have set their sights on Bayern Munich's versatile defender Alaba and Ajax ace Tagliafico.

Both players are 28 and fit the criteria recently laid out by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, but the Premier League side have less than a week to agree a deal for one of the pair.

City have already added Nathan Ake to their backline this summer, while a £64m fee has been agreed for Benfica's Ruben Dias.
