Manchester City target Aymeric Laporte suffers broken leg

Athletic Bilbao confirm that Aymeric Laporte suffered a broken leg and dislocation of his right ankle while representing France's Under-21 team on Thursday night.

Athletic Bilbao have revealed that central defender Aymeric Laporte suffered "a fracture-dislocation of the fibula and right ankle" while representing France's Under-21 team on Thursday night.

After the match with Scotland's Under-21 side, the 21-year-old posted a picture on Instagram from hospital and said that he would "inform" his supporters of the news after a scan had been undertaken on Friday morning.

That scan has now taken place and the reported Manchester City target is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to the severity of the injury to his right leg.

"After the first scan, Aymeric Laporte has been diagnosed with a fracture-dislocation of the fibula and right ankle," read a statement from Bilbao. "On his return to Bilbao he will be subjected to further tests after which the extent of his injury and his period of absence will be determined."

Laporte had been widely expected to join Man City in a £39.5m move this summer, but his injury has now placed that deal in doubt.
