Roy Hodgson: 'Fabian Delph unlikely to make Euro 2016'

England manager Roy Hodgson reveals that Fabian Delph has been relegated to the standby list and is "unlikely" to be part of his squad for Euro 2016.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that Fabian Delph is "unlikely" to be included in his final 23-man squad for Euro 2016.

The Manchester City midfielder was named in Hodgson's original 26-man squad, but has picked up a groin injury in training and will be absent for Friday's warm-up match against Australia at the Stadium of Light.

The game is Hodgson's last chance to look at his players before choosing his final roster for this summer's tournament, and he revealed that Delph has now been relegated to the standby list.

"It means he probably won't be with us in the final 23, unless of course we have injuries," Hodgson told reporters.

"I have put him on the standby list, which he understands and accepts. I don't think it is going to be a long-term injury for him, so if I need him and want him to come along with us it is easy for me to call him and ask him to do so.

"I have said to him, with the situation we have with the other 25 players, it is unlikely."

The deadline for choosing the 23-man squad is May 31, after which England will face Portugal in their final warm-up game before the tournament itself gets underway.
