Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva insists that his side are not favourites to lift the Champions League trophy this season.

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has insisted that his side are not favourites to lift the Champions League trophy this season.

Pep Guardiola's team began their knockout-stage campaign in excellent fashion on Tuesday night, securing four away goals in the first leg of their last-16 tie with Basel.

Silva told reporters, however, that with City being relatively new to this stage of the competition, experienced teams such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are more worthy candidates for the crown at this stage.

"I think it was an amazing performance," the 23-year-old said of the game. "To come here and win 4-0 against this team, away from home - it is always so difficult in this competition.

"But favourites for the Champions League title? No. I think teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid [and] Bayern Munich are more used to playing games in this special competition than us.

"Even though we are in a good a moment, and we know we can try to do something, we are not the favourites."

Elsewhere in Tuesday evening's action, Tottenham Hotspur came from two goals down to secure a draw with Juventus in Turin.
